Salt Spring Island ( also known as SSI and Saltspring ) is the largest of the Gulf islands. This "star of the Gulf Islands"is noted for "arts, crafts and culture in spectacular setting".
Situated off Vancouver Island between the cities of Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle; it can easily be reached by scheduled automobile ferry or floatplane. There are three ferry terminals with connections to:
- south Vancouver Island (Victoria- via Swartz Bay terminal)
- mid Vancouver Island ( Nanaimo-via Crofton terminal)
- the City of Vancouver on the mainland (via Tsawwassen terminal )
- Salt Spring is also easily accessible from Seattle via Vancouver or Victoria .
Floatplane service to the town of Ganges on Salt Spring originates from various points including Vancouver and Seattle. For visitors coming from afar, the closest major airports are Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle-Tacoma.

Eating Well:
No surprise here – a true feast for visitors- Salt Spring has some of the best organic and local produce around! Wild salmon, halibut, mussels and shrimp abound. If you are a vegetarian or prefer meat you'll find that too. You won't find big name fast food here!
Salt Spring is the ultimate informal place. Dockers and jackets are about as formal as it gets unless you go to Hastings House Resort where
a tie may still required for that special dinner. We also recommend either House Piccolo (award
winning Scandinavian food) Artist's Bistro or The
Oystercatcher for dinner reservations. Moby's at the marina is also a casual favourite, but it is first come first served.
